Riding on pink bib number 21, on her 125 ACE Gas Gas, ACE TRIALS TEAM 16 year old team Youth A rider Hannah Styles was the first team rider to leave the paddock on Saturday in Round One of the Ladies World Championships. Riding on pink bib number 21, on her 125 ACE Gas Gas, Hannah Styles put in another fantastic performance for the British team.  The sections were all very tight and technical.  Set in two groups close to the paddock and around the La Rabassa Pyrenees Ski Resort.   Sections 1 – 8 were set up on the higher ridges of the Pyrenees resort and sections 9 – 14 were lower down the mountains in the pine forest. With 2 laps of 14 sections consisting of tight turns and big steps the scores were gong to be near double numbers. Working with her Manager Mark Kilhams as minder, Hannah attacked every section with determination. With the sections being so long, and slippery from the thunderstorms, Hannah had to constantly keep the revs low on her 125, stopping the bike from “spinning” or “pulling” away from her, but made sure she had enough power to overcome the sections very technical and large obstacles and get grip where she could (Like first gear on ice in a car!!).  Hannah had awesome rides on section 14 both laps when she recorded cleans. Hannah was riding the majority of the sections for a clean but had to settle for threes due to the sections being so technical, slippery, and tight on time. Finishing lap one for a loss of 49 followed by a  lap two score of 45 Hannah finished the day on a total loss of  94 marks lost and in the top 15 ladies of the World  and only 14 marks of a top ten finish with the majority of her higher scoring competitors on larger lower revving machines.  Team Manager Mark said at the end of the trial “Hannah is one of the most determined riders I have seen and a real star of the future and that’s why she is on the team. We have spoken and she knows where improvements can be made before round two. We are aiming for a top ten in France as that’s what I believe Hannah is capable of but to come in the top 15 in the world in her first year in ladies Worlds is not bad for someone who has just turned 16 years old!!”  Hannah said at the end of the trial “It’s nice to have the support abroad and have people I can rely on. I had some good rides, especially section 14 and I am pretty happy overall. I could have performed better and will now go away and work towards a top ten in Round Two in France”. Second rider to leave the paddock was ACE Gas Gas youth rider Joanne Coles who turned 17 years old whilst away with the team in Andorra and who made the perfect start to her first full year of the Ladies World Championships of 2009 securing an amazing 3rd place for her country and the Team on her 125 Gas Gas machine, breaking a podium that has been dominated by the same riders for the past 5 years. In the extreme weather conditions, thin air, on a standard 125, Joanne secured 20 cleans over the day dropping 20 marks on her first lap with 10 of these marks coming from two maximums, one maximum on Section 8, a long rock jumble which Joanne was timed out and another   “bad luck” maximum lost on section 10 when her clutch came loose. Lap two was a big improvement with only one 5 scored, again for time in Section 8. With a total on the day of 31 marks lost Joanne missed 2nd place by just 3 marks, showing why she is the hottest property in trials at the moment and why all her older competitors, male and female are starting to look very closely over their shoulders. Mark said at the end of the trial “Its hard work but to see Joanne standing on podium where she truly belongs with the union jack flying behind her representing her country and a British Team is fantastic. It’s seeing British Youths reaching their true potential with the help of the teams sponsors that makes it all worth while for me”. Joanne said to team Manager Mark at the end of the weekend “My hard work practising has paid off by me getting 3rd on podium Saturday in my first ladies world. On Sunday I competed in my first men’s FIM World Championship for experience only with my dad and Mark supporting.  I rode the youth 125 class. Each lap was 8 miles long. The sections were technical and long and time was always going to be a problem.  I finished my first men’s FIM World round trial on only 86 marks lost in observation. I really enjoyed the experience of the trial and now need to work on my strength and timing as I am competing in the men’s FIM World Championship next year. Joanne’s Granddad Clive (Clifford) said tearfully “Podium is a great result for the family,   Ace Trials Team and Gas Gas”.
