Toni Bou World Champion
Toni Bou is the World Indoor Trials Champion for the third year running, with an indisputable victory. Bolzano (Italy), 26.02.2009. - Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) achieved his third title as World Indoor Trials Champion on Thursday evening by winning the fourth and penultimate scoring event. The Montesa rider achieved an undisputable victory in the Italian world championship event losing just one penalty point for excess time in the seventh and final section by which time he had mathematically already had the title in his pocket. Previously Bou had dominated the qualifying lap, in which he lost two marks. Having won in the Sheffield and Barcelona indoor events and coming second in Marseille, Toni Bou was in excellent form. Born on October 17, 1986 and resident in Piera (Barcelona-Spain), Toni Bou won his first title at the age of 13 (Junior Champion of Catalonia), followed by the Spanish Junior title (2001), Youth Trial European Cup (2002), and European Champion (2003) as well as taking the Spanish National Championship (2006). He joined the Repsol Montesa Honda team in 2007, with which he has won five World Championships to date, three indoor and two outdoor. Toni Bou had this to say: “I’m delighted, both for me and the team, who have done a sensational job. To win my third title with a result like today’s, with just one single point, has been incredible, fantastic! This event seemed easy at first, but it gradually got more complicated; the last section seemed impossible and I’m convinced that getting there knowing I was already champion, gave me the definitive push. I felt a lot of pressure today, as a mistake would have been terrible with all that was at stake. A short and intense championship like this one is always very tense because you cannot afford any mistakes. But with three victories in four events, I think we must feel proud of what we’re achieving”. Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) finished third and achieved the second podium of the present season. Takahisa Fujinami: “This is of course a great day for Toni and the whole team. It has been fantastic to be with them on the podium. In any case, I’m more or less satisfied with my performance”.
