Trial Magazine Talks Trials – No 10
As I write this on Wednesday morning I have one thing on my mind, the world cup in South Africa. I know many of you trials riders out there also like your football but what a dismal display by our players to the point it was embarrassing. If I was in charge of the England squad I would change the team before tonight and replace it with trials riders. It would be some thing a little like this: Team Manager - Malcolm Rathmell, this would make sure that the pre- match talk would not be of many words, “Win or do not bother coming back to the dressing room and forget any talk of a bonus or expenses” – In goals it would be an obvious choice, Martin Lampkin. Imagine that, it would like running at a bull dozer and with Dougie in defence Mart would be in the ideal position to shout instructions, “chop em down Doug”. I would put Harry Lampkin also in defence just in case there were any problems. Alexz Wigg would be good in midfield; once again a big strong lad to keep them away from goal, paired up with Sam Haslam who could just ask them to slow it all down just a little. Michael Brown would make an ideal replacement for Shaun Wright Phillips, small and difficult to contain. Maybe a good choice to team up with these would be minders “Big” Jack Lee (James Dabills minder) and Shaugn Galway (Michael Browns minder) two good strong solid lads. Up front to attack it would have to be James Dabill and Steve Colley. I am quite positive that neither of these two could play football but they can certainly play the part of the present day player with all there style and fashion accessories. To cement the win I would let Dave Willoughby referee the game with Mike Rapley and Mike Wren supporting him. Well that’s my take on the team – sorry if I have offended any one!
And now to some thing a little more serious, this week-ends world trials championship round in to be held at Fort William in Scotland. This event will be the talking point of trials for years to come fact! It will be organised with military precision, the sections will be the best and the venue is second to none fact! What it does need is the support of trials fans to attend it and make it the success it deserves.
I for one know how much effort has gone into this event. Two years in the making it has taken some dedicated work to raise the bar to the level this event will be at. You will have the world’s best riders on display on the slopes of Ben Nevis, trust me it does not get much better than this. All it needs to make it a success is for you the spectators to attend. Yes it’s a long haul to Scotland we are all aware of this and yes the expense will have to be taken into account but why not go for the three days and make it a trials mini-break. If you are worried about getting a ticket when you get to the venue you can pay on the day. If in doubt do it!!
