WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Hope this does not infringe site permissions, rules, regulations, sub-clauses or protocol........if it does please Mr H, delete thread on-site and accept my apologies;

Looking for a TY Mono PINKY seat, it must be pink plastic and have a good green seat rubber. Dont matter is its a bit worn but would like a complete one with all bullets in tact and no splits. I can swap an older plain white /red seat with cash adjustment for your troubles.

Project Pinky is bogging down a bit due to non-availability of parts, they were plentiful on the Bay but not anymore:(sad

Re: WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Very kind matey, I was on the verge of bidding for 1, I need to build a strategic stock of spares so I shall take you up on your kindly offer.
Send to;
FF  c/o
B&B Motorcycles
U28 Cannon Way
Claycliffe Business Park
Barugh Green
BARNSLEY
S75 1JU

that way someone is always in for a delivery.

Thank You!

The Pinky is close, I have a tubeless on the rear now, the front wheel is my old 4RT front with a slight wobble, just got a bash plate made for me by Mr Mitani san, Japan......its 8mm thick......yes thats correct.........8mm dural........heavy but should withstand a themo-nuclear attack and a Beta 4-pot caliper front brake.
The gearbox oil drain plug is in an absolute sod location, going to put a cross drilled hole in the threads to easy oil changes while engines out.  Should be on its feet soon!!

Re: WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Right project PINKY is nearing completion, fired up engine on Saturday last and ran pretty sweet. It all started with acquiring a Mick Andrews 270 engine and a few other bits and ..............well sure you can guess the rest!!

Anyway I had a 270 Pinky in about 1991, it got nicked one night and never ever surfaced again.......lost all!  Anyway that was a Mick Andrews 270 aswell so this represents a blast from past. First point of note is just how heavy it is!! Will weigh it when done but I expect it to be some 80-85 kg.  The air box and carb "tube" are all wrong for good breathing, the new bikes have massive airbox volumes that can supply a reed-valve engine when it sucks hard under full chat without any airflow restriction. Carbs with pipes are a complete no-no!! Fitted a tubeless rim to rear and a modern disc to front so it should be half competitive in the air-cooled mono class.

Still looking for that Pinky seat with green foam seat however.........................!! Anyone..............??

Re: WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Right............Victorian grandad is riding Victorian bike this Sunday......all 75 Kg of it!!  Been a few years since I had mi leg over a Pinky let alone ride a trial on one, so here goes!!
Might be a bit over geared with 11 / 35 gearing so plenty of swearing to be heard at Hood Green Pit !!!  lol

Re: WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Reet then....Victorian dad has just finished with the Pinky on its first outing.......nteresting experience on a Pinky after an absence of 20 years!!
First off my clutch would slip like nowt in ALL gears, initially thought the new Venhill cable was tight through lack of lube but even when I had to push the lever right out the clutch would still slip thereby making any sudden power burst non existent as clutch would just slip. It was like riding with a torque converter....hard to stall as revs were always high but no urge when called for. Shall strip clutch and measure plates next week, dont know whats in there.......oil looks pretty thick though so might just be wrong oil.
Second big prob is the amount of flywheel weight and the over-run it generates........that band on flywheel has to go ASAP!
Fitted with tubeless IRC it does however grip pretty well for an old shed.
Bar-to-footrest distance and height is pants however, need to buy some forward-and-up bar risers, help to bias my weight over front end and give mi poor old back a better posture to content with.
Anyway as an odd-ball bike to ride for beginners & novice rounds, its a good laugh although hard work compared to the Beta Racing.
That alloy kickstart is all wrong, not easy to kick up when you are forwards on TDC.
Anyway get that weight moving forwards and she will clear most things.

Have 2 TY-S  and 2 TY-R versions in my yoof........just wish I could turn the biological clock back as easy......!!lol

Re: WANTED YAMAHA MONO SEAT

Finally arrived at what I thought I knew all along............10 / 35......!! The 10 is a tad small and so the swing arm slipper tends to get a good workout from the chain.
Fitted some fibre reeds today and ditched those stainless shim affairs. The words of wisdom is that the stainless shim jobs are too stiff and hammer the intake velocity at low RPM, its only at higher revs do they become effective which is not what we want. Had a look down the inlet as well..........gosh it bloomin huge in there. Dont know what MA was thinking about but it looks good. The piston skirt has a large crescent cut out of it so at TDC it effective clears the whole inlet port and theres a small scavenge port to shove some extra mixture in the back of the chamber at last moment before port closes. These are 2-stage type, thinner that open quicker at low RPM and other is ever-so-slightly thicker to open at higher RPM. Anyway big difference to the throttle as my shim type would not shut and 1 was ever-so-slightly nicked at the tip, so were only fit to throw!
Certainly runs well, nice and smooooth, the Pro-Monty exhaust works a treat..........well its brand new and absolutely no clag in there like some 25 year old smoker usually seen at large.
Anyway Pinky is a good runner now and fit for anything.
